Electronic Arts, Inc. (ERTS) creates, markets and distributes interactive entertainment software for various platforms, including the Sony PlayStation and PlayStation 2 and Nintendo 64 entertainment systems and CD-ROM-based systems, including IBM PCs and compatibles. Its EA.com segment conducts its E-commerce sales, games subscriptions and web advertising operations. At Mar. 31, 2001, the company was developing products for eight different hardware platforms. Products under development for 2001 were primarily for PC, Playstation, PlayStation 2, N64 and online Internet play. New product introductions for FY 02 are planned for PlayStation 2, PC, online Internet play, Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Xbox and Game Boy Advance/Game Boy Color. At Mar. 31, 2001, the company marketed over 100 titles either developed or published under its brand names, and distributed about 20 additional titles developed by other software publishers in North America or developed in conjuction with other software publishers (Co-published titles). In FY 01 (Mar.), ERTS also distributed over 4,000 Affiliated Label and Co-Published titles worldwide. The company's products are distributed through a direct sales force and through third-party distributors, to more than 80,000 retail locations worldwide. International operations accounted for 37% of FY 01 revenues, down from 40% in the previous year. In FY 01, ERTS generated about 51% of its revenues from products released during the year. The company publishes products in a number of categories such as sports, action, strategy, simulations, role playing and adventure. In both FY 00 and 01, products marketed under the EA Sports brand name provided a significant percentage of net revenues. EA.com's online business includes subscription revenues collected for Internet game play on its websites, website advertising, sales of packaged goods for Internet-based games and sales of ERTSs' products sold through EA.com websites. EA.com's websites include EA.com, individual sites for Electronic Arts' games or studios and the Games Channel on America Online, introduced in the second half of calendar 2000. In February 2000, ERTS acquired Kesmai Corp. in exchange for $22.5 million in cash and about 206,000 ERTS Common shares valued at $8.650 million. Kesmai, managed by EA.com, specializes in the design and development of multiplayer games delivered directly over the Internet, and also provides game content to the Games Channel on AOL. INCORPORATED in Delaware May 8, 1991, as a wholly owned subsidiary of a company of the same name, and on Sept. 26, 1991 merged parent on a share-for-share basis. Former parent was incorporated in California May 27, 1982. In September 1992, acquired Origin Systems, Inc. for 2,087,056 Common shares. Feb. 7, 2000, acquired Kesmai Corp. for $22,00,000 cash and approximately 206,000 Cl. A Common shares valued at $8,650,000. Feb. 28, 2001, acquired Pogo Corp. for $43,333,000, consisting of an initial $42,000,000 investment and the redemption of $1,333,000 of Pogo preferred shares.
