Conexant Systems, Inc. (CNXT) provides semiconductor products for communications electronics. These products facilitate communications worldwide through wireline voice and data communications networks, cordless and cellular wireless telephony systems and emerging cable and wireless broadband communications networks. CNXT has aligned its business into five platforms. The Personal Computing product platform provides telephony-based communications products for personal computing terminals, including desktops, notebooks and handheld personal computers. The Network Access product platform provides network infrastructure OEMs with semiconductor products for electronic equipment that resides at communications access points between individual client users and wide area networks (WANs). These products enable the transportation of voice, data and video between and within networks. The Wireless Communications product platform provides components, subsystems and system-level semiconductor products for wireless voice and data communications. CNXT supplies silicon and gallium arsenide-based components and systems for use in digital cordless telephones, digital cellular handsets and base stations and global positioning system receivers. The Digital Infotainment product platform provides semiconductor products that perform communication and media processing functions within a variety of electronics equipment for digital information and entertainment. CNXT offers broadband wireless communications and cable modem products and RF tuners, which process high-speed data, voice and video transmissions. The Personal Imaging product platform supplies semiconductor products that enable image capture, processing and printing. These products are used in of office automation products such as fax machines and multifunction peripherals, which combine printer, plain paper fax, copier, scanner and phone functionality into one system. In November 2000, CNXT's Conexant Spinco, Inc. subsidiary announced that it had filed for an initial public offering of its Class A Common stock. In September 2000, CNXT had announced that it planned to separate into two independent communications semiconductor companies. One company, comprised of CNXT's Network Access Division, would focus on providing complete semiconductor and software solutions for manufacturers of Internet infrastructure equipment. The other company would concentrate on personal networking applications by delivering semiconductor systems solutions to manufacturers of mobile communications and the broadband digital home.
